COP16, the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, is currently taking place in Cali, Colombia, from October 21 to November 1, 2024. The conference is a pivotal global biodiversity summit, where representatives from nearly 200 countries are convening to discuss and assess progress on implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) set in 2022. This framework aims to protect 30% of the Earth’s lands and waters by 2030, known as the “30 by 30” target, and address biodiversity loss and ecosystem protection.
